Falls Hotham Crossing

One of Australia’s iconic hikes this 37km point to point walk through the Alpine National Park is a 3 day/2 night multi directional walk, crossing the Bogong High Plains in the Victorian Alps connecting the alpine resorts of Falls Creek and Hotham. Enjoy spectacular views of mountain ridges and wild flowers in the summer, walk through snow gum woodlands, grassy plains, past historic huts and over rocky summits and on a clear night marvel at the cosmos as you sleep under the stars. At 2000 m above sea level the cool alpine air is a welcome break from the summer heat below. Be rewarded with incredible views at every step. Accessible for hiking from November to April, the walk can also be done as a 25km single day route.

14km from the trail head at Falls Creek is Cope Hut camping area. It’s a further 14 km to the next camp site at Dibbins Hut which is 9 km from Hotham. Each camping site has five sites on tent platforms, bookings are required to book a platform through Parks Victoria, but if all the platforms are booked out, you can still do the hike and just camp on the ground.

Due to the road closure between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek this summer, the only access to Falls is via Omeo, adding time and resourses to any transport service. Stay at Mountain Dreaming at Hotham and the General can arrange transport, otherwise Snow Dog Transport offer daily shuttles from $80 per person leaving Hotham at 8.30 am to arrive at Falls Creek at 11 am snowdog.com.au
