With the incredible scenery, abundance of wildlife, and world-class single track, Jindabyne is one of Australia’s best destinations for trail running. Even if you are just thinking of trying out trail running for the first time – the mountains are one of the best places to challenge yourself at something new.

Trail running festivals

Did you know? The Snowies Trail Run Festival is back this year for an action-packed weekend of off-road action for the entire family at Lake Crackenback. Taking in some of the most spectacular alpine mountain scenery, 24-25 February.

The Australian Alpine Ascent (AAA) Ultra Festival is also set to run in March 10 & 11, 2023.  The festival includes three trail runs starting and finishing at Charlotte Pass – 22km, 53km and 73km. Crossing through the scenic Kosciuszko National park. Known for being on the harder side of trail races, it’s in a beautiful setting. The courses have been designed to showcase the very best of the Snowy Mountains.

With its refreshing mountain air and pristine wilderness. The Snowy Mountains are a destination you don’t want to miss if you love to run.

Our Favourite Trails

Main Range Track

A spectacular 20 km loop and true mountain experience. The Main Range Track traverses the Australian high country on its way to Mt Kosciuszko. The highest mountain on the Australian mainland. Crossing the famous Snowy River and passing several beautiful glacial lakes. The sweeping 360° views and well-trodden track make this a bucket list trail run in Jindabyne.

Mill Creek Trail

Loved by trail runners and mountain bikers alike. Mill Creek is a popular singletrack trail located near Jindabyne. Starting from Jindabyne, this trail runs over the Damn wall to the other side of the lake to Tyrolean Village. Enjoy the views of Lake Jindabyne, the surrounding mountains, and the town itself as you take on a few climbs and mellow descents. For some extra fun, take some of the offshoot sidetracks that offer extra technicality and link back up to the main track.

Dead Horse Gap Trail

Dead Horse Gap running track is the ideal Snowy Mountains trail run. Offering sweeping views of the Ramshead Range, Crackenback Mountain, and the Thredbo Valley, in Kosciuszko National Park. With a fun, high paced descent, you can take the Chairlift up at Thredbo and run all the way down and around Dead Horse Gap, winding down to the valley floor. Finish off with a great run along the river back to Thredbo for a well-earned rest.
